Good-morning all My cousins are in town, and it’s just too fun… We’re having ourselves our own little girls trip. I can’t wait to share yesterday with you, and also point out why embracing unexpected events and eats is fun!
I woke up yesterday morning, had quiet time, blogged, and then enjoyed breakfast with Marco. Eggs and toast.
After breakfast, I headed out to the gym and enjoyed myself some more zone-out time. I plugged my headphones in, got an hour workout to myself, and felt so good after… I love that feeling…
I came home from the gym, did some work, and then ate an early lunch around 11:40. Leftover chicken, rice, and broccoli.
Once my family arrived (my cousin Holly and her little one Klover), we got all their stuff set up, sat and talked for a bit, and then walked to Urbane Cafe. I wasn’t super hungry when we got here, but I figured that since it was about 2:00, if my cousins ate a full lunch then they wouldn’t be hungry until late that night. We were planning on the farmer’s market (here in SLO!) and I had my heart set on a veggie burrito. Anyway, I asked myself if anything small sounded good to hold me over and yes yes yes. A side salad with a little blue cheese and balsamic dressing sounded amazing. So that’s what I got :).
After lunch we stopped by the ice cream shop. Koko (Klover’s nickname) was craving a donut, but we weren’t sure where a donut shop was so this was the next best thing. It smelled AMAZING in the ice cream shop, and I knew I wanted some but was most craving the one I already had at home. So I hung out, and enjoyed my own bit once I got home :).
After ice cream we walked around, sat on our bright blue SLO steps (isn’t she the cutest?!) and talked… Koko told me that “she loves Marco” and that “she loves the secret place in Auntie Paigey’s house.” Haha! The secret place is just the garage under my house… but there is a little “cave” going off to the side that’s the underneath of the other side of the house… Pretty fun for a little kid! She’s brave!
In the late afternoon Holl’s and Koko went walking and to the park. I had more client sessions and work to do, so they entertained themselves in SLO while I worked :).
When they got home, we jumped in the car to pick some things up at the store. While we were out, we passed a DONUT SHOP. Yay, we found one! Koko could finally get her “pink donut”… we stopped and got it for her :). Except, she chose chocolate… (Hehe)…
As we were sitting down (the only ones in this super old fashioned ADORABLE donut shop) the man asked me if I would like an iced chai tea. I was a bit confused… because we’d already paid and didn’t order anything… “is this man offering to make me a tea for free?” So I said “sure!” and sure enough… he proceeded to make Holly and I his famous iced chai teas with “real milk and real tea.” The tea was AMAZING! Literally, the best sweet iced tea I’ve ever had… He then brought us each a fresh buttermilk donut that was literally steaming as it had just came out of the oven…
Are you kidding me? This guy… was SO NICE… he smiled the entire time he talked to us… I tell ya, I’ll be back. I may have become a donut lover yesterday just because of him ;). Sunshine Donuts in SLO. If you’re here or ever passing through, stop by… Nicest man ever… I walked away saying “man, I want to be as nice as that guy!”
By the time dinner came we weren’t super hungry like we’d thought we’d be. And although I had my heart set on a veggie burrito earlier in the day, that all changed when we were surprised with the worlds best buttermilk donut. So, we walked around the farmers market for a while… listened to music, Koko played on the little gymnastics setups they had going on, and we talked… Before we headed back home I grabbed a fish taco to eat for dinner, since I knew I needed something, just not much. This was the perfect way to top off a really, really delicious day.
Happy belly. Happy soul.
So, moral of the story: unexpected eats come up all of the time. Yesterday was a fun reminder of that for me. But I do know, this isn’t a “fun” thing for everyone. Sometimes, unexpected events can really stress people out. What I’d like to encourage us toward today is that unexpected opportunities for food & life come up all of the time… so when they do, let’s learn to embrace them… Let’s learn to pause and go with it… and learn that everything is usually okay.. When we pause to notice and appreciate these special times, they’re some of the MOST fun.. Also, a last note, because I know people will ask – you never HAVE TO eat something that’s given to you. If I didn’t want to eat the donut, I could have “tasted” it and just sat and enjoyed the rest of my time and that would be 100% okay. So, I also want you all to know that..
I hope you have a great day and weekend, ladies
Love,
